California Elite

We believe that every child is a champion. We believe in providing excellent training in an environment where the child comes first. We believe that participating in athletics should be challenging and progressive, but never at the expense of fun... or a child’s self worth. We believe that sports should serve as a springboard for lifelong health and fitness, as well as an enduring source of validation and pride. We recognize that each child is unique and that each child learns in his or her own way. We understand that each success, great and small, is important.

Welcome to Cal Elite Kids.

Cheerleading/Tumbling

Cheerleading is a dynamic blend of tumbling, dance, and performance all in one sport! Cheerleading develops strength, flexibility, spunk and power and also teaches life lessons in teamwork, commitment, responsibility and camaraderie.

Cal Elite Kids’ cheer program is a performance based program. Our teams do not train to compete, they train to CHEER. We perform in real venues, such as professional basketball games at the Staples Center; professional soccer games at the Home Depot Center; Disneyland; the O.C. Fair; local parades; and many community and school events.

Preschoolers can join one of our weekly Kindercheer classes and older students can enroll in an Academy Cheer class. Tumbling is another important component of cheerleading! Cal Elite offers a wide variety of tumbling classes for all levels. For those ready to advance to the next step, we have a fantastic team program for cheerleaders ages 4 and older.

Academy Cheer 1 classes are designed to teach entry level cheer skills to the academy aged child, including basic tumbling, cheers, chants, dances and jumps. Emphasis is placed on correct technique and form and building the proper foundation for safety and advancement. Additional emphasis is directed toward developing the necessary strength and flexibility to enable the student to master the skills and to provide the physical basis needed for more advanced skills. Cal Elite Kids’ cheer program is based on structured progressions. Cheer 1 encompasses basic tumbling - forward rolls, cartwheels, and round-offs. Back handsprings are not taught in Cheer 1.

In addition, they will perfect cartwheels, round-offs, and kick-overs and will begin training standing back-handsprings and roundoff-back-handsprings.

What to Wear

Cheerleaders train in Cal Elite cheer shorts and cheer t-shirts. Please wear cheer shoes (simple low tread white athletic shoes). For safety reasons, we discourage jewelry, hooded sweatshirts, jeans or street pants, belts, zippers, and baggy clothing. Long hair should be pulled back – no hard barrettes.

Tumbling

Kids LOVE to tumble! Tumbling builds strength, power, courage, and confidence! Tumbling also gives children a perfect venue for showing off both in and out of the gym! Tumbling is an important component of cheerleading, gymnastics, and dance. Strong tumbling skills distinguish an athlete in any of these disciplines and many of our gymnasts, cheerleaders and dancers cross train in tumbling. Tumbling also develops body awareness and balance and is a favorite for football players, soccer players and other athletes. No matter what your focus is, tumbling is totally FUN!

California Elite offers beginning, intermediate, and advanced tumbling classes to students 6 years and older. Our tumbling curriculum is based on structured progressions, with an emphasis on safety and progress. We insist on building a strong foundation before moving into big tumbling tricks. We maintain these standards so that our students and families can enjoy the benefits of developing excellent tumbling skills and so that we can keep our training programs safe for our athletes.

Beginning Tumbling

1 hour; $150 | 8 weeks
Beginning Tumbling is for new students who have little or no tumbling experience. Students are introduced to proper body positioning, terminology, and technique. They learn about the muscle groups responsible for each tumbling skill and the role that flexibility, strength, sequencing and timing plays in tumbling. Emphasis is placed on initiating the conditioning requirements needed for intermediate and advanced tumbling. Students will learn forward and backward rolls, handstand, handstand to a bridge, standing backbend to a bridge, and a kickover from a bridge.

Intermediate Tumbling

1 hour; $150 | 8 weeks
Students in Intermediate Tumbling refine their basic tumbling skills and increase their strength and flexibility. The backhandspring is the cornerstone of cheer tumbling and is a requirement of many cheer teams. One of the primary goals of Intermediate Tumbling is to introduce and master the backhandspring. The round off is refined with a focus on developing a strong rebound. Conditioning emphasis is placed on shoulder flexibility, back flexibility, and leg strength, all needed for the backhandspring. Students will be taught the backhandspring in staged progressions, utilizing specialized equipment. Students will be spotted on the backhandspring until both the student and the coach feels that a spot is not necessary.

Advanced Tumbling

1 hour; $150 | 8 weeks
This is the class where all the hard work pays off! Advanced tumbling is exciting, exhilarating and fun! Advanced Tumbling students work on front tumbling and multiple trick skills and combinations. Students will refine and add to multiple backhandsprings, back handspring to a back tuck, backhandspring to a layout, and a layout full twist. Students must be able to do a round off to two backhandsprings AND a standing back handspring (without a spot) in order to register for this class.

What to Wear

Tumbling students wear a leotard with or without shorts or sweat pants. Cheer tumbling students tend to wear cheer attire (cheer shorts or sweats and a t-shirt). Gymnastics and dance students usually tumble bare footed, while cheer students wear their cheer shoes (light tennis shoes.) For safety reasons, for both child and coach, we discourage jewelry, hooded sweatshirts, belts, zippers, and baggy clothing. Long hair should be pulled back, however be careful about hard barrettes or hair decorations.
